A Team Effort

Our Committees

The BAPD consists of the Executive Committee, The Board and other dedicated Committees, all working together for the benefit of our members. All the committees and board members are voluntary positions and if you feel, as a full member, you would like to join any of the committees, please feel free to contact us.

Executive

Composed of the Registered Company Directors of the BAPD, this committee is responsible for the day to day running of the BAPD. Decisions are taken at board level regarding the actions needed to be taken to ensure the BAPD is both responsive to the needs of the members and also fulfils the legal responsibility of a Directors Board. There are currently 8 members. Membership of this committee is elected by the members of the Board Committee. This is also the committee which liaises with the external organisations such as the GDC and CQC, often with specific input from board members co-opted to meetings for this purpose

Board

This is the strategic steering committee of the BAPD. The chairs of all the committees sit on this overarching committee and define the strategic direction which needs to be taken by the BAPD and is the responsibility of the Executive Committee to action. This committee not only meets regularly via Zoom (due to the diverse locations of the members) but is also in regular contact through messaging, so action can be taken swiftly and responsively when issues affecting private dentistry are brought to our attention

Communication

The committee responsible for outward facing information dissemination to members, the profession, and the public where necessary. Using a variety of social media and digital formats to get messages out, this is one of the busiest committees in the BAPD

Membership

The Membership Committee focuses on the recruitment, retention of and engagement with members. It encourages private clinicians to join the BAPD, whilst assisting and supporting them with any queries they may have and direct them toward a solution.

Trade

The liaison between the dental industry and the BAPD. Many of our trade contacts were only too aware that there was no specific private dental representation prior to the pandemic. Many forget that the trade was also heavily affected by the pandemic, and close relationships were forged initially, which now flourish. We are an independent organisation; however, we have key relationships with our sponsors who support the work of the BAPD

Education

The BAPD has an underlying core value which revolves around the provision of quality dentistry that drives all we do. Education is part of this. The education committee works to provide quality educational content, which is not necessarily solely clinical in nature, but also to covers other aspects of the business of dentistry

Science

The committee which looks into the research evidence behind issues affecting the provision of quality dentistry. Initially this was focused on the pandemic, but is now broadening its view into other areas, for example the guidance surrounding the treatment of patients' use of DMARDs in Dental Care. We are committed to providing scientific based responses to any future issue or crisis
