From a cold start in April 2020, the BAPD has now become a fully-fledged membership organisation with thousands of members across the UK. The BAPD has secured stakeholder representation with the CQC, GDC, and PSA. The BAPD is a confirmed part of the team hoping to represent private dentistry at the upcoming Covid 19 Inquiry, which is looking into the handling of the Pandemic and how mistakes can be avoided in future. Key industry relationships have been successfully forged that do not affect the autonomy and independence of the BAPD.
The formation of the BAPD was the result of a need for representation of the Private Dental sector during the pandemic and quickly became a voice that was heard by both the profession and the establishment. It was never the intention of the BAPD to be a ‘one issue’ organisation. Whilst the urgency at the time defined the initial direction of the BAPD’s work, it was always clear that there was going to be a need for a long term view for the organisation.
